Bylaw Amendments

On November 30, 2016, the Board of the College of Midwives of British Columbia (CMBC) approved changes to CMBC’s bylaws as set out in document linked here (marked with tracked changes). Notice of the amendments is hereby provided to other health regulators in BC with copy to the Minister of Health, as required by section of 19 (6.2) of the HPA.

CMBC has to amend its bylaws in preparation for the proposed amendments to the Midwives Regulation which enables midwives to autonomously prescribe, compound, dispense or administer three new categories of drugs for specific purposes: anti-coagulants, for prophylaxis for treatment of thrombosis; benzodiazepines, for therapeutic rest in prodromal labour or short term management of excessive anxiety in the postpartum period; and narcotics, for pain relief in labour and/or the postpartum period. CMBC has also used the opportunity to do a complete review of the outdated bylaws and update many sections require amendment.

Any feedback on the proposed amendments should be sent to CMBC and/or to the Ministry of Health no later than February 28, 2017.

A clean version of the proposed bylaws can be viewed here.
