CMBC Recognized Midwifery Education Programs

University of British Columbia Midwifery Education Program
The Midwifery Education Program at UBC is a CMBC approved four-year, direct entry, full-time undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Midwifery degree. Graduates may apply for general registration in British Columbia after passing the Canadian Midwifery Registration Examination (CMRE).
The curriculum combines broad-based knowledge and understanding in the humanities and the social and bio-medical sciences. A variety of teaching methods are used, including seminars, laboratories, web-based technology, distance-learning, and clinical placements with BC midwives. Teaching is done in clinical placements, lecture theatres, seminar rooms, hospitals and labs throughout the province, and in international settings. Students spend at least 3 terms gaining clinical experience in midwifery practices across the province in order to meet clinical experience requirements for general registration with the CMBC.

Programs in Other Provinces and Territories
The CMBC do not currently recognize any midwifery education programs in other Canadian provinces or territories except BC and Ontario. Graduates from a Canadian midwifery education program which are not recognized by the CMBC must first seek midwifery registration in the provinces or territories who recognize the programs and apply for registration in BC under inter-provincial registration reciprocity.
